How is Saorsa different from a news app or a map app?

A news app gives you a headline, a map app gives you a position, a flight tracker gives you one layer. None of them is the event. Where does Saorsa get its data?

Satellite imagery, official alerting sources, live data layers such as AIS shipping, aircraft, weather and the power grid, and content from people on the ground. An agentic AI pipeline sources and verifies worldwide and translates into more than 100 languages. Every event carries a trust grade derived from official and multi-source corroboration.

How do you pronounce Saorsa? (It’s “SOOR-SAH”)

Short answer: Saorsa is pronounced “SOOR-SAH”. Two syllables, with the stress on the first (SOOR-sah, the first part rhyming with “poor”), not sa-OR-sa. The “ao” is a single vowel sound, not two separate letters.

Where the name comes from

Saorsa (spelled s-a-o-r-s-a) is a real Scottish Gaelic word. It means freedom, or liberty. In Gaelic the letter cluster “ao” is one long vowel rather than the “a-o” an English reader expects, which is why the spelling and the sound look further apart than they are.

Why we chose it
